Šarūnas Narbutas reviews Beat Cancer EU articles for accuracy from a patient-advocacy and health-policy perspective. A former adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania on legal affairs, diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia at 18, he led the petition that secured reimbursement of modern CML therapy in Lithuania and went on to lead the Lithuanian Cancer Patient Coalition (POLA) for almost a decade, serving as its President and now as Chief Advisor. In 2015 he co-founded Youth Cancer Europe, the pan-European network for young people affected by cancer, which he chairs. He is a lawyer by training (Vilnius University Faculty of Law, where he also lectured on health, EU and public international law) and has worked as legal adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania, as a member of the Ministry of Health's reimbursement committee and advisory board, as Chairman of the Governmental Fund on the Promotion of Public Health and as a member of the National Health Council. Between 2017 and 2022 he chaired the CML Advocates Network, the global community of leukaemia patient groups. His published work includes the European Cancer Organisation's Essential Requirements for Quality Cancer Care in haematological malignancies (HemaSphere, 2025), patient-reported outcomes from the phase 3 ASCEMBL trial (Leukemia, 2023), recommendations on embedding survivorship research in the EU Cancer Mission (Molecular Oncology, 2021) and joint patient-physician guidance on treatment-free remission in CML. He brings lived experience of cancer, formal legal and policy expertise, and an evidence-first approach to every review.
