Grief podcasts for family and friends

Podcasts can offer a more personal and informal way of learning about grief, loss and the experiences of other people. Listening to someone talk openly about their own experiences can create a sense of connection, particularly at times when you may feel that the people around you do not fully understand what you are going through. Hearing different stories can also remind you that grief can take many forms and that there is no single way of responding to loss.

Podcasts can cover a wide range of topics, from personal experiences of bereavement and living with loss to conversations with professionals about grief, coping, relationships, identity and meaning. Some episodes may help you understand your own emotions, while others may simply make you feel accompanied for a while. Listening can become something you do during everyday activities, such as travelling, walking, resting or being at home, allowing support and reflection to become part of your routine without requiring your full attention.

You may find comfort in hearing someone describe an experience that feels similar to your own, or you may discover perspectives that are very different from yours. Both can be valuable. Sometimes, hearing another person put difficult experiences into words can help us find language for our own feelings.

Some episodes may include descriptions of death, illness, bereavement or other emotionally difficult experiences. It is important to listen according to what feels manageable for you. You can pause an episode, skip a topic or stop listening whenever you need to. There is no expectation that you should listen to something simply because it has been recommended.

The podcasts included in this section offer different perspectives on grief and loss. Explore them at your own pace and choose the conversations and stories that feel supportive or relevant to where you are right now.
